What is the best way to trap and/or kill a pesky groundhog?
Q. My family has a nice family vegatble garden, which a certain groundhog loves to help himself to. We have tried in year's past to trap groundhogs with little success. what else can we do?

A. Once you've determined that you have a pest problem with groundhogs in your garden, you'll need to consider possible groundhog control solutions, which include the following: Frightening groundhogs away from the garden with motion devices. Discouraging groundhogs with repellent smells or tastes. Fencing groundhogs out of the garden. Bringing out the heavy artillery: tossing gas cartridges into the groundhogs' burrows, etc. Live-trapping groundhogs as they exit their burrows and relocating them to an area far-removed from your garden (illegal in some states). Option #4 above may be unacceptable in all but rural districts. Option #1 simply entails installing pinwheels or other devices around garden areas to frighten groundhogs away (g [cont.]

How do you catch a crafty cat in a trap?
Q. I called animal control about a pitiful kitty that just recently started hanging around my driveway. The kitty is very bony he/she looks aweful. He/she has set the trap off once without getting caught so I reset it, all day he/she has just stared at it and tried to grab the food that's in it from the outside. This cat is very smart and I want him/her to go to a good home so he/she can get chubby and be happy. The trap is not one that will hurt the kitty. Please if you have any ideas that will help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

A. I hope it's a box trap with a drop door by floor panel activation. Anything else isn't up to the job. Okay, I'm trapping kittys all the time. You're right, a failed attempt can make it difficult. Your best bet is to block the trap in the open position. Put the food just in the doorway. Once it sees it's safe to eat and calms a bit, the next day (or day after) move the food further into the trap. You've got to gauge her trust level and move the food further in accordingly. This can take a few days but luckily kittens are stupid (but cute and fun!) and easy to fool. Be patient. If you rush it, he'll get to paranoid to go near the trap. Once he goes in without (to much) worry, then the next time unblock the mechanism and put the… [cont.]

How do you catch bullhead catfish in a minnow trap?
Q. How should I bait my trap? I was thinking dead fish, but I've tried that before and all I end up with is crawfish and creek chubs.

A. if you didn't want to catch baby catfish, you would need a BIG minnow trap. for bait, you could use soy bean cake ( soy bean meal, pressed into cake form ), years ago, used that, when trapping channel catfish, in southern Florida
