What is the difference between divestment from a country and imposting sanctions on a country?
Q. Recently, I read an editorial in which the writer said the US should divest from countries that support or do business with other countries or groups that engage in terrorism. The writer said that some in Congress want to do this but business interests and some of our allies quietly lobby against it. How is divestment different from imposing sanctions? Or are they really the same?

A. Divestment is getting rid of ownership. Sanctions is not trading Say you own stock in Exxon... divesting is getting rid of your stock Sanctions is not buying gas from them (or selling oil rigs to them)

Restorative justice may be the mode that best serves alternative sanctions?
Q. How can this essentially humanistic approach be sold to the general public that now supports more punitive sanctions? For example, would it be reasonable to expect that using restorative justice with nonviolent offenders frees up resources for the relatively few dangerous people in the criminal population?

A. This sounds suspiciously like an essay question for a criminal justice course.

What kind of organization sanctions brazilian jiujitsu belt rankings?
Q. I'm looking at BJJ schools but not sure I understand the lineage and how to tell if the school is recognized as a BJJ school. Is there a difference from a Gracie school and other school BJJ schools? I'm in southern california so there are many to choose from. There are even some professional MMA clubs that teach jiujitsu but I'm looking for something that is certified as BJJ.

A. there isn't really any organization, Gracie Jiu Jitsu is regulated but there aren't many schools of it and they tend to be more expensive not to mention that except for the name Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are exactly the same thing. If you talk to the instructor they will be more than happy to tell you who they learned from(if they don't there is something wrong)(if one of the names mentioned is Gracie, Machado, or Sauer thats about as good as it gets) and you can usually verify that persons credentials, also ask about and look up a competition record, the instructor should definitely have one and the school has probably sent people to competitions though perhaps not as a team, or they may be a new school. So long story… [cont.]
