Weather phenomena lie in the troposphere. Weather refers, generally, to day-to-day temperature and precipitation activity, whereas climate is the term for the average atmospheric conditions over longer periods of time. When used without qualification, "weather" is understood to be the weather of Earth. Weather occurs due to density (temperature and moisture) differences between one place and another. These differences can occur due to the sun angle at any particular spot, which varies by latitude from the tropics. The strong temperature contrast between polar and tropical air gives rise to the jet stream. Weather systems in the mid-latitudes, such as extratropical cyclones, are caused by instabilities of the jet stream flow. Because the Earth's axis is tilted relative to its orbital plane, sunlight is incident at different angles at different times of the year. On Earth's surface, temperatures usually range ±40 °C (100 °F to −40 °F) annually. Over thousands to hundreds of thousands of years, changes in Earth's orbit affect the amount and distribution of solar energy received by the Earth and influence long-term climate Surface temperature differences in turn cause pressure differences. Higher altitudes are cooler than lower altitudes due to differences in compressional heating. Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a future time and a given location. The atmosphere is a chaotic system, so small changes to one part of the system can grow to have large effects on the system as a whole. Human attempts to control the weather have occurred throughout human history, and there is evidence that human activity such as agriculture and industry has inadvertently modified weather patterns. Studying how the weather works on other planets has been helpful in understanding how weather works on Earth. A famous landmark in the Solar System, Jupiter's Great Red Spot, is an anticyclonic storm known to have existed for at least 300 years. However, weather is not limited to planetary bodies. A star's corona is constantly being lost to space, creating what is essentially a very thin atmosphere throughout the Solar System. The movement of mass ejected from the Sun is known as the solar wind. The celebrations are fantastic, in Disney they have Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Celebration, in universal studios and island of adventure, they have The grinchmas, located in islands of adventure that's based on the grinch that stole christmas, the hotels are adorned beautifully with Christmas trees and they (at least the ones in universal) have events that take place around the christmas tree including festive music. For new years there are tons of fireworks and parties all night in downtown disney and city walk. the weather can differ but usually its very cold, i mean for florida that is. it ranges between 50-70 degrees fareheit. Answered by Lauren B - Sun Jun 1 10:22:01 2008 What is the weather like in San Diego during the Fall and Winter? Q. I just moved here for college and was looking forward to cooler La Jolla weather (From L.A.) but the weather is sometimes random and mostly above 80. What are the usual temperatures from now till the Spring? Asked by Petey - Wed Oct 15 22:01:34 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Being on the water, there is a tendency to assume San Diego is cool and breezy. And it is -- on the coast. But we are very close to the desert, and, with the inland canyons, San Diego surprises visitors with its warm weather. As for your question, you can expect warm temperatures until November. We are entering fire season (there were 2 devastating fires in 2007 and 2003). The strong winds (which are called "Santa Ana" winds) kick up this time of the year. The rains begin in early November (if they arrive). Don't fret -- it will get much cooler in the winter. It's why so many people move out here -- no shoveling snow, or scraping frost off the windshields. I have 2 good sources for you below, regarding what to expect from now… [cont.] Answered by Sage - Thu Oct 16 01:16:47 2008 How many days is a weather forecast more guessing then really forecasting?
Q. Like some sights even have 15 days. Ive heard 2-3 days max is even pushing a prediction. What is the maximum length of days before weather forecasts are guesses? Asked by David N - Mon Jun 15 02:04:19 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are so many factors that can affect this. I used to live in a place where they said.. If you dont like the weather, wait five minutes, it will change. And they were right. Blizzards in May. 80 degree days in March. It happens. Now I live in a place where we pretty well know what the weather will be like three weeks from now. Seriously. During some seasonal shifts, we still know 3 or 4 days in advance. And we can see storms coming many days in advance. So location is important. Variability is also important. Some seasons have little weather change, and in others it is very variable. So predicting at such times is difficult, but easier other times. I guess the last might be what I would call momentum. If a long term trend is… [cont.] Answered by Fastermaster - Mon Jun 15 03:40:19 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "weather" |
