How do you escape the arm /wrist lock behind your back that the police commonly use?
Q. My friend did it to me and it hurts like hell once in that position how can you escape it? (When they can readily cause you extreme pain at will?) Id hate to be put in one of those by a thug and not know how to escape it would be torture! If you know let me know thank you!

A. It's called an elbow lock, but commonly referred to as the chicken wing. This link shows how, look at the pictures: The one police use is a little different. It's not a lock and it's a lot more simple. You just have to turn your free side towards your opponent to loosen the arm and execute a shoulder roll (look up how if you don't know). Another way is (in this example pretend he has your right arm), stick your right leg in between both of his legs, and turn your body to the right while trying to trip him (same as the last one except without the roll. The way i use works too. I brought up my free arm behind me to pull my trapped arm down (cause of pain), and while he struggles to hold the position, you can turn rapidly and free… [cont.]

What makes light not be able to escape a black hole?
Q. I've read over and over again that nothing travels faster than the speed of light. My question is this: if the force of a black hole is so strong that not even light can escape it, then might that mean that whatever "force" in the black hole travels faster than light itself? Forgive me for not fully researching before I ask... I know the answer's probably just a google away, but it's always cool to get opinions from real people. Thanks!

A. the answer is that gravity doesnt really have a speed. its like the earth or anything else with a large mass. everything has escape velocity, you have to be going so fast to escape the gravity of an object. so the gravity of a black hole is so strong not even light can escape it. think of gravity like a trampoline. if you place a bowling ball in the middle it sags, so any thing else on it rolls towards it. and something has to have a certain amount of speed to be able to roll back up the slope thats created by it. so basically a black hole has so much gravity that there isn't even a slope, its like a wall instead of a hill, you can always climb up a hill (the more steep the more effort, same with gravity) but you've gotta be pretty… [cont.]

How do you solve this escape energy problem?
Q. Calculate the amount of energy required to escape from the following locations relative to that required to escape from Earth. (a) the surface of Earth's moon ___ x energy to escape earth (b) the surface of Jupiter ___ x energy to escape earth I don't really understand the concept of gravitational potential energy. For part (a), I tried to use the formula U = - (G x Mass-of-earth x Mass-of-moon)/(distance between earth and moon plus the radius of earth). Would this be right? Please help!

A. The formula you used is correct, but you used the wrong masses and the wrong distance. U = -GMm/r Here for (a), M is the mass of the Moon and m is the mass of object escaping the Moon. Since you're trying to compare the PE between escaping the Earth versus the Moon, we have U(Moon)/U(Earth) = [GM(moon)m/r] / [GM(Earth)m/r] = M(moon)/M(Earth) = 0.0123 For (b) U(Jupiter)/U(Earth) = M(Jupiter)/M(Earth) = 317.8
