NounWikipedia has an article on: ComparativeWikipedia comparative (plural comparatives)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. In grammar, the comparative is the form of an adjective or adverb which denotes the degree or grade by which a person, thing, or other entity has a property or quality greater or less in extent than that of another, and is used in this context with a subordinating conjunction, such as than, as...as, etc. If three or more items are being compared, the corresponding superlative needs to be used instead. StructureThe structure of a comparative in English consists normally of the positive form of the adjective or adverb, plus the suffix -er, or (in the case of polysyllabic words borrowed from foreign languages) the modifier more (or less/fewer) before the adjective or adverb. The form is usually completed by than and the noun which is being compared, e.g. "He is taller than his father", or "The village is less picturesque than the town nearby". Than is used as a subordinating conjunction to introduce the second element of a comparative sentence while the first element expresses the difference, as in "Our new house is larger than the old one", "There is less water in Saudi Arabia than in the United States", "There are fewer people in Canada than in California." Accounting Information * Different Accounting Policies The choices of accounting policies may distort inter company comparisons. Example - IAS 16 allows valuation of assets to be based on either revalued amount or at depreciated historical cost. The business may opt not to revalue its asset because by doing so the depreciation charge is going to be high and will result in lower profit. * Creative accounting The businesses apply creative accounting in trying to show the better financial performance or position which can be misleading to the users of financial accounting. Like the IAS 16 mentioned above, requires that if an asset is revalued and there is a revaluation deficit, it has to be charged as an… [cont.] Answered by Sandy - Thu Jun 28 01:32:22 2007 How do I start off my comparative essay between? Q. How do I start off my comparative essay between "Romeo and Juliet" AND a book called "Message in a bottle" by Valerie Zenatti Asked by Panda^^ - Wed May 19 09:08:29 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Try to start off your first paragraph with a small amount of background knowledge on each book. Here's a basic outline to get you started (it's all my own words, use it if you like it!) "Romeo and Juliet is a romantic play that has been admired by many since it was written in the year ___ by William Shakespeare. In this play, the characters Romeo and Juliet fall in love but are forbidden from being together because of an ancient feud between their families. The two form a plan to be together, but when their plan goes wrong, the story ends in tragedy." Then do something similar for "Message in a Bottle", but I've never read that book. Good luck!
