Do you have to be lifeguard certification at YMCA to become a lifeguard at YMCA?
Q. Do you have to get certification at YMCA to become a lifeguard at YMCA? I was planning to get my certification at RDV Sportsplex (like YMCA but have to be 18 to work there) because its closer to home and know people that work there. Any infromation will be helpful! Do you have to take a test, just to get the job, even if I have the been certified?
Asked by crooms123 - Sat Apr 12 21:37:29 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The YMCA requires all of their employees to be YMCA certified. They will hire people with other certifications like Ellis and Associates or Red Cross but will require cross certification within a certain time. Your best bet is to ask at the YMCA where you want to get a job what their requirements are.

How do I get out of my YMCA retirement fund?
Q. If you check the YMCA retirement website it states that if your YMCA fund is over $25,000 you cannot take it with you when you are terminated, but if its less then you can??? That doesn't make sense. We have experienced a hardship and need this money. I have called them but they are no help. Anyone have answers as to how we can get our money out and roll it into our own personal IRA?
Asked by wag314 - Thu Dec 4 11:32:54 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The money YOU put into the YMCA retirement accounts will be made available to you to roll over to another retirement account--but only if you LEAVE your job. This can be an IRA and yes, if you are foolish enough to wipe out your retirement savings, you can dip into it. The money the Y put into the account is intended for retirement. Thus if it's over $25,000, it's either staying with them or it's going to purchase an annuity. Either way, you will get it at retirement (age 55 at the earliest). This was the Y's money, they get to make the rules (many retirement plans work this way).

Does the YMCA allow a family consisting of 2 women and a son?
Q. My mom, her partner, and I want to join the YMCA as a family. So the family would be consisting of to Women and one 13 year old. Does the YMCA in the Ridley Area allow that?
Asked by KimMikeAlyssa M - Mon Dec 29 12:31:17 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The YMCA that I pulled up (searched Ridley Area YMCA) is for Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County. if this is the correct one then it appears that they would not qualify your mom, her partner and yourself as a "family". From their website: "FAMILY: Applies to a husband and wife living in the same household and any of their dependent children, up to 18 years of age, or 23 years of age, if a full-time college student. Student roster displaying 12 or more credits is required at time of registration." If this is not your the Y you were looking for my suggestion is to go to www.ymca.net where you can type in your zip code and it will pull up the Y near you and hopefully an up to date webpage. More and more Y's are changing their "family"… [cont.]

What would you recommend doing at the YMCA?
Q. Hi, I just join the YMCA and all I do there is swim. Is there any other interesting programs that you would recommend trying out?
Asked by CutiePrincess - Wed Jul 1 22:50:58 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. All Ys I have ever seen offer a program book. Get one and look at what is offered. I did several different exercise classes. Took kick boxing-- that was a blast. Each Y is free to offer whatever programs it feels will best serve the members, so check out the schedule.

Can you just walk into the ymca or do you have to have a membership?
Q. I want to workout and swim at the YMCA but I don't have a membership. Could I just pay a day fee or something? And how old do you have to be to workout?
Asked by CHELSEA, - Wed Jul 22 20:55:03 2009 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments

A. It really depends on which YMCA you are looking to go to. I have heard of some that has that open door policy the other person said, but there are not too many. There are also some that can give you daily passes for a fee and it is usually around fifteen bucks ha ha. If you are under eighteen you need to have your parents signature generally to use the gym. Just call and ask them or something because I am sure some allow you to go without a signature. Hope I helped and good luck!!

What kind of questions will be asked at a YMCA job interview?
Q. I am a rising senior in high school and will be going for a job interview at the YMCA for a child care postion. I was just wondering what questions might be asked and what I should prepare for. This is not my 1st job interview but I also feel like my 1st interview was very informal and laid back..and very quick. Can anyone just tell me what the job interview is like and what I should expect? Thanks so much!
Asked by southernsweetie - Tue Jun 3 13:56:02 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Good question. Generally in my experiance they usually are pretty laid back. They want to get a feel for who you are and why they should hire you. It's not necessarily the inquisition that people make it sound like. Granted, if you're going into a very upper scale firm you may have to prepare. At any rate, here is a source that I've used in the past that gave me a few great gems. Take a look if you have some time. Good luck!

A. It`s about 15 dollars a month, give or take - all of them cost different and they don`t tell you until you go in... but if your only 10 you won`t be allowed in the gym (treadmills).. It`s either 12 and over or 14 and over (cant remember) and you have to have a parent there. You also have to be 16 to take the classes (Zumba)

A. I don't live there. I have family that lives in Binghamton that uses the facility. It is in a decent part of town and seems like a nice place to me. I hear the rent is only like $15 per day - probably less if you stay a month. Sounds good to me!

How much does the YMCA charge for fitness membership?
Q. I want to find out which gym would be best to join where they won't rip you off and they will give you a good monthly price. However, i was wondering how much does YMCA charge for individual membership ?? Anyone know ??
Asked by enchantingforest - Thu Apr 20 22:49:21 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I joined them last year and it was about $35 a month plus a $55 sign up fee. I think it really depends on where you live, though. Also, I priced out a gym and walked out without signing and they called the next day with a much better deal. you might want to try playing hard to get. I hate that whole game, it's like buying a car or something.

Is there a required age to shower naked somewhere like the YMCA?
Q. Say for instance I went and showered at the YMCA, and there were other men in the shower. Would it be child pornography on their part for witnessing a minor naked and showering? Or would it just be weird? In response to paranoia reports from all of you... I never said that I was worried or anything, I was just taking a precautionary step ensuring that I would not be asked to leave because I did not have a parent present and securing the innocence of those men around me. Thanks

A. There are no age requirements for showering. One is never too young nor too old to observe the basics of personal hygiene.

A. I just looked at the YMCA website and it says [in FAQs] that prices vary - and you have to contact "that" Y (closest to you) to get rates. Call them and ask -- or go to this website, put in your zip code, and see if you can get any info online. Also, at the bottom of the page, look for a "contact us" link. You can ask them online (how much it costs). Have fun this summer!! Clar
