Proper nounOceania
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Oceania (sometimes Oceanica) is a geographical, and often geopolitical, region consisting of numerous lands—mostly islands in the Pacific Ocean and vicinity. The term "Oceania" was coined in 1831 by French explorer Dumont d'Urville. The term is also sometimes used to denote a continent comprising Australia and proximate Pacific islands, and is one of eight terrestrial ecozones. The boundaries of Oceania are defined in a number of ways. Most definitions include Australia, New Zealand and all or part of the Malay Archipelago. Ethnologically, the islands that are included in Oceania are divided into the subregions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by Bored Goblin - Wed Apr 21 22:35:57 2010 What type of man is in the oceania region? Q. You know how there is like Homo erectus, Homo Sapien Sapien and well I was reading about Australian Aborigines and they said the earliest man found there was the "Mungo Man." Well how many types of man are there then? And do they all evolve into the modern humans that there are today? In other words, are Australian Aborigines Homo Sapiens? I'm not trying to say they're not human, I am just wondering if there is many different species of humans as well as animals. Asked by Kory - Mon Feb 16 12:20:04 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. All humans are homosapiens, including Aborigines. Aborigines are descended from such bipeds as the "Mungo Man", just as nearly all Europeans, Africans, and Asians are descended from bipeds like "Lucy". There is currently only one type of man, but there have been different species (homo erectus, neanderthal, etc.) from which we have descended. I hope that helps. This is a really fascinating question that has undoubtedly changed the geopolitical face of the planet. Because Europe was more densely populated than other continents during the early-middle ages, when diseases landed in Europe, they tended to "hang around" and infect the same places over and over again. Without the proper antibiotics and supportive care to help people recover, most people infected with, say, bubonic plague simply died - which means they couldn't have more children. Natural selection meant that people who got the plague, but whose biology was somehow resistant to the plague, were able to survive and go on to have children - these children would also be more likely to be resistant to the plague. Now, 100 years after… [cont.] Answered by BLLYRCKS - Sat Nov 1 00:56:27 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Oceania"
