What are the differences between the iPod touch 1st and 2nd generation?
Q. I am getting an iPod touch for Christmas, and I'm most likely getting the 1st generation. From what I can see, there aren't that many differences between the 1st generation and 2nd generation iPod touch...I know of the volume control, the genius feature, and the rounded instead of flat body. I don't care about the body shape that much, but are there any other drastic differences between the 1st and 2nd generations of the iPod touch? i'm talking about speed, calibration, all that stuff. Graphics are also important. Thank you!

A. Cosmetic differences: 1st generation has a black bevel and a flat metal back. 2nd generation has a contoured metal back and wraps around and forms the front bevel. It's Wi-Fi port is also more low profile and stylish with rounded edges. Hardware and software differences: 2nd gen comes with the 2.x updates. It also has an external speaker for casual listening. The accelerometer is also more functional then the 1st. One major difference though is the inability to jailbreak the 2nd gen meaning no 3rd party apps can be installed. There is hardly any graphical enhancements, calibration is the same, and it runs smoother on some apps such as calendar and maps and all of that. A. The first that came to my mind was the price. The 16GB (2nd Generation) costs as much as the 8GB (1st Generation) which is really GREAT! The new touch is skinnier along with a new couple of of hardware features such as built in speakers, added battery life and volume buttons on the side. The software however is pretty much the same, not a lot of big changes there. If you are hesitating between the 1G and 2G, then the 2G is a must buy because it's cheaper and has more features.

A. 1st generation would be the people's children. So for instance, 2 people move to America. Their children would be 1st generation Americans, since they were the first ones in their family born in America. However, if a 1st generation parent is born in America, their children would be 2nd generation Americans. It wouldn't matter if the other parent was born elsewhere.

A. It's amazing the difference!!! They barely look different, but 2nd one has speakers,10 hours longer life, more applications able to download, and the designers built something in it that makes it quicker, it also NASA volume button,if you are playing a game and want to turn the volume down, it's easier! Soo much better get the 2nd one!!!

A. The 2nd generation includes a volume rocker, support for microphones (you could use as a phone via the Fring or truphone app), a speaker, and it looks a lot better. I had a 1st generation, sent it back, and bought a 2nd generation. I think you should get the 2nd gen, the price difference, in opinion, is worth it.

A. Hardware or Firmware? Hardware you must go to the store and buy a new one to upgrade. Firmware you just connect it to the computer and iTunes will automatically ask you to upgrade and will walk you through it. Costs about $10.

A. As far as functionality goes, yes, it is. After upgrading to the latest version of the firmware, it is essentially the same as a 2Gen iTouch. However, the 1Gen still can t take in audio signals, so you can t really record anything, and it still can t do a lot of other things that the 2Gen can. Hope that helped!

A. No, mitsu engines arent engineered that great, so im sure the older ones werent any better. I would keep the one you have in there, unless its blown, cracked or seized. Plus youd have to change a lot of details to the car to get it to run good and properly.

A. There are a few key differences between the two models. The Second generation (gen) of iPod Touch has speakers, external Volume buttons, and built-in Nike+ support (for nerds that run). Other than that all other features can be made equal by updating the software on the iPod to the latest version.

A. iPod can only support mpeg4 video. You will need to have a 3rd party tool to help you to convert dvds and video into mp4 or h264 format, add them into itunes library, then sync to ipod,the following is a good tool for it.
